Tap Water Talks: Episode One

Healthy Communities and our Drinking Water

Join Evelyn Wendel, Executive Director of WeTap.org, as she explores the importance of drinking water with experts: Razmik Manoukian, Director is Water Quality, LADWP; Mark Hovatter, Chief Facilities Executive, LAUSD; and Dr. Rebecca Dudovitz, Associate Professor of General Pediatrics, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. Healthy communities depend on reliable access to public drinking water. These experts field questions so we all can improve our overall community knowledge about water: our most precious resource.

Highlights:

“You gotta trust the tap water and drinking it,” says Razmik Manoukian, Director of Water Quality at LADWP, because “the water does not sit in the system for more than two weeks. Bottled water sits on the shelves for over a year and can be exposed to heat.”

There is a lot of advocacy the public health community can do by considering access to public water as a human right.

“Water fill stations at every LAUSD campus...then we will drive the plastic bottle people out of our campuses and we will all have a much better environment while we are drinking our safe water” says Mark Hovatter.
